Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch has given what appears to be support for Scottish independence after he tweeted that Scotland should be allowed to go and compete.
Mr Murdoch, who owns SKY TV and several newspaper titles tweeted “Let Scotland go and compete. Everyone would win”
The apparent support from one of the most powerful men on the planet would be seen as a huge boost to the campaign for Scottish independence.
The tweet follows another in which Mr Murdoch praised First Minister Alex Salmond, describing him as the best politician in Britain.
The tweets also coincide with the announcement of a new Sunday newspaper as a replacement for the News of the World which was closed down by Mr Murdoch's company following the phone hacking scandal.
